The idea was born in 2013 – and in 2014 it became reality: During a wine inspired evening, landlady Anna Miedaner and her partner Peter Schmitt decided, together with the viniculturist couple Bogen from the Pfalz region, that St. Englmar and a vineyard, planted right at the Berghotel, would make a great match.
The Berghotel deliberately decided, together with Rolf Bogen from “Weinmanufaktur Pfalz” for the grape type “Solaris”: Powered by the sun, this resilient grape shows an early maturity and a high sugar level. Solaris is a hybrid of the grape types Merzling and Gm 6493 and was first cultivated in 1975.
The vineyard “Maibrunn I” is highly official: It is registered at the “Bayerische Landesanstalt für Wein-und Gartenbau” (Bavarian Vineyard and Gardening Authority) in Veitshöchheim (Nr. 1557, district St. Englmar).
