Close to the sun at an altitude of 852 meters
The idea was born in 2013 – and in 2014 it became reality: During a wine inspired evening, hotelowner Anna Miedaner and her partner Peter Schmitt decided, together with the viniculturist couple Bogen from the Pfalz region, that St. Englmar and a vineyard, planted right at the Berghotel, would make a great match.
Our grape variety Solaris
The Berghotel - together with Rolf Bogen from Weinmanufaktur Pfalz - made a conscious decision in favor of the “Solaris” grape variety: The power of the sun helps this hardy vine to ripen early and produce a high sugar yield. Solaris is a cross between the Merzling and Gm 6493 varieties and was first bred in 1975.
